🎨 What is a Yarnist?

For a while I've been trying to distill what I think Yarnist is all about.

I wanted to create a statement that described what I believe knitting means, at least to me, and I hope to you as well.

It needed to be simple and concise, but get to the heart of WHY we knit.

You don't have to be a professional or even that experienced.

You just have to enjoy the craft and take joy in what you have crafted.

I think everyone who loves to play with yarn is a Yarnist.

This small statement is based on talking to thousands of knitters over the past 10+ years, and what I've heard you say is important to you.

I hope you connect with it in some way...

The Yarnist Manifesto

We believe that fear has no place in knitting.

What mistakes we make will teach us.

What we do not know, we can learn from others.

What we do not understand will become clear through practice.

What we think impossible we will at least try.

What once made us fearful will now make us fearless.

We believe in keeping the tradition of knitting alive.

We will teach others our craft to grow our community.

We will share our knowledge to make better knitters.

We will create new projects to advance the art form.

We will document our discoveries for new generations.

We will leave behind our work to have our legacy remembered.

We believe that knitting is love manifested through yarn.

And it is that LOVE which actually keeps people warm.

What do you think?

Does this describe you?

Caliper Cable Stitch

This is not your traditional cable stitch. This one takes its sweet time to make itself known.

First you have to wrap the yarn a few times, drop the stitch, and knit a few rows before you make your crossed stitch.

Oh and you have to do that backwards as well, so you have a nice little pair of dropped stitches, just waiting to be reunited.

But this diva of a stitch really makes a statement when she finally gets on stage.

And as Chili Palmer says, "If you're important enough, people will wait."

The Pour Over Newsletter

Not Conservative. Not Liberal. Just Christian.

Trust in media is at an all-time low (shocking… we know) but why don't we keep “walking around completely uninformed” as a backup plan.

The Pour Over provides concise, politically neutral, and entertaining summaries of the world’s biggest news paired with reminders to stay focused on eternity.

🧶 Pattern Pick

Jasmine Scarf by Purl Soho

I love simple designs that look complex.

This scarf reminds me of the Horizontal Herringbone scarf that inspired me to first start making knitting tutorials.

The difference is, the Jasmine scarf is significantly easier to knit.

Using the caliper cable, this scarf creates the illusion of ribs alternating stockinette and...arrows? fishbones? vines?

Whatever they are supposed to be, they look pretty cool.

And they have the subtle simplicity that make this a great accessory for any outfit.
